Jo Malone Experience #BEDM 8

Who knew there was so much to learn during a Jo Malone Hand & Arm massage?  My pre conceived idea that Mum and I would be in and out within 15 minutes (maximum) was blown out of the water and then some.

On arrival, our stylist Alison, asked if we had shopped with them before and what we knew about Jo Malone and the merchandise within.  My knowledge was limited to the candles I’ve had in the past and knew nothing about the various lotions and potions that were on offer.

We sat down at the bar and were asked what our favourite type of scent was – fresh, floral, woody, spicy.  I adore anything that’s fresh and slightly floral and definitely nothing over powering.

Alison then went to fetch 4 samples to try and decide which we liked as a base note…more on that to come.  My 4 samples were the English Pear & Freesia, Peony & Blush Suede, Lime Basil & Mandarin plus Pomegranate Noir.  It was a really tough choice but I settled with English Pear & Freesia (Fresh collection) and Peony & Blush Suede (Floral collection). My least favourite was Pomegranate Noir as I felt this was too heavy for me and reminded me of Christmas (that’ll be the spicy woods undertones within I’m told).  Lime Basil & Mandarin was beautifully fresh but to me it wasn’t fragrance to wear and more suited to the home.

I then had to make a further decision on which of the two I’d prefer as the base note and opted for Peony & Blush Suede.  Alison then washed both of my arms and hands with the hand wash that triples up as a shower gel or a bubble bath.  A little goes a LONG way and felt incredibly soft and smooth on my skin.  She then rubbed the body cream in to each arm.

The idea with the fragrances is that you can build up your own bespoke scent or go all out using the same fragrance on all products.  I went for a total Peony & Blush scent on my left arm so had the scent sprayed on top of other products.  On my right arm I had the English Pear & Freesia scent sprayed on top of the Peony & Blush Suede products that were already there…are you keeping up here?!  Initially I felt that I had Peony & Blush overload as it smelt really strong, however after about 10 minutes it really calmed down.  I really couldn’t decide which was my favourite combination, both were amazing!

There was no push for us to buy a product – Alison said that the scents would change as the day progressed and she was definitely right.  The other thing we noticed was that Mum’s Peony overload on her smelt completely different to mine.

Jo Malone have also introduced a limited edition fragrance – Nashi Blossom.  We tried this and again it was beautifully freshly scented including apple, pear, rose, white musk and of course nashi blossom.  I might have bought a small bottle of this as with all their limited editions, once it’s gone…it’s gone!

Alison could not have been more friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.  She was really good fun and we had a great laugh with her.

Our appointment was at the Bath boutique – if you go, make sure you see Alison!
