Time for something a little serious on HappyWiseOwl today…

We all live incredibly busy lives and we’re constantly rushing from place to place, seeing friends, going to work, running our homes, looking after children, catching up with relatives, and just being ‘us’.

Putting a Will in place is probably way down your every growing list of ‘things to do’ but is probably one of the most important documents you will have.

Approximately 70% of the UK population do not currently have a valid Will in place… that’s 29.5 million people!!

It’s easy to arrange a Will and it will save your family unnecessary distress

• A Will makes it much easier for your family or friends to sort everything out when you die – without a Will the process can be more time consuming and stressful.
• If you don’t write a Will, everything you own will be shared out in a standard way defined by the law – which isn’t always the way you might want.
• A Will can help reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax that may be payable on the value of the property and money you leave behind.
• Writing a Will is especially important if you have children or other family who depend on you financially, or if you want to leave something to people outside your immediate family.

Estate Planning is for everyone—not just retired or “wealthy” people

Your estate is comprised of everything you own— your car, home, savings accounts,    investments, life insurance, furniture, personal possessions.  No matter how large or how modest, everyone has an estate and something in common— you can’t take it with you when you die.  Estate planning is making a plan in advance and naming whom you want to receive the things you own after you die.  However, good estate planning should include other factors, possibly trusts.
