The Pear Tree Inn Review

JB had a birthday recently so in order to celebrate we decided to take an extended lunch break (or afternoon off to be honest) and went out for lunch at The Pear Tree Inn at Whitley.

Neither of us have been here for a good 10 years or more and in that time it was run by Marco Pierre White for a short period (very mixed reviews about him owning it!!!)  It has now been taken back into the capable hands of Nerys and Marcus.

Wherever possible they buy their ingredients from local farmers and growers. They don’t buy out of season and the menus change regularly to make the most of the fresh crop, local specialities. All the meat is all free range and comes from local farms & butchers.  On top of that, all the bread, jams and chutneys are made on site so there is a busy kitchen bustling in the background!

When you enter the pub you are immediately greeted by a warm cosy bar area with lots of sumptuous seating areas and cosy corners – I imagine in the winter with the fire going it’s super inviting!!

We were shown round to the restaurant area which was big, bright and airy but still maintaining the welcoming feel.

Our food was really lovely we had:

Starter – pork terriene, pear chutney, walnut bread

Mains – “Gem” beer battered fish & fat chips, minty mushy peas / Caeser Salad with Rosemary & sea salt skinny chips

Puds – Sticky Toffee Pudding / Chocolate & Rock Salted Caramel Tart

Drinks – Two glasses Prosecco / 1/2 Bath Gem / 1 glass ‘Pretty Gorgeous’ Rose wine (fab name!!)

When it comes to food, my photography skills were not the greatest to be honest so you’ll just have to believe me when I say it was all delicious!  There was a really generous serving of chicken within the salad – normally it’s just a couple of slices!  Our bill came to £65 which was extremely reasonable.

The birthday fish & chips!!

What I didn’t realise was that you could stay here – I know this gastro pub is only 20 minutes from our house but if the bedrooms are as fab as the downstairs decor then I’m sure it would be a winner!

If you’re looking for somewhere that’s a bit more than a pub but not as fancy as a restaurant, you won’t go wrong with The Pear Tree Inn!
