2016 – the look back post!

2016 might not have been the greatest year in the news…there’s been the loss of famous musicians and actors, terrorism acts and let’s not mention the politics side of life!

2016 hasn’t been too shoddy in the HappyWiseOwl household…I don’t want people to read this and think we’re showing off at what we’ve achieved this year as that’s certainly not where I’m heading.  In a world of tragedy, loss and sadness it’s important to remember the great stuff that’s going on sometimes – whether that’s an amazing trip you’ve taken, an outfit you’ve bought that’s made you feel fantastic, a new lipstick that’s made you feel sassy or just some quality time you’ve spent with loved ones…sometimes the best things are free!

Travelling Life

We’ve travelled a LOT this year. We’ve been extremely fortunate that our work and life allow us to go on so many breaks including St Lucia, Dubai, Cornwall and Rome plus we included a 6 week working / holiday period in Spain.  Travel has always been high on my agenda – I worked in a travel agent when I left college and then worked in Majorca when I was 18.  I’m always on the hunt for the next trip (on the plane on the way home I’m often asking where’s next?!).  I firmly believe that travel is good for the soul and opens your horizons – your expeditions don’t have to take you far and wide either.

Foodie Life

We’ve eaten at lots of yummy places this year – some of favourites have included:

G&T Afternoon Tea at the Manor House in Castle Coombe

Gorrans Restaurant, Cornwall

Finding Cala Bandida in Spain

Moles Taco Bar in London

Freakshakes in Bristol

Working Life

I definitely feel that we’ve fallen into a good balance of work vs life having our own businesses.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not been plain sailing but it’s worth knowing that all the hard work benefits you.  Boatman Admin Services celebrated a first birthday and business has been pretty steady which isn’t easy in a first year. You can read about our first year in business here.  As well as admin services, we’ve also been helping lots of people look at their estate planning – writing your Will is really important and you don’t have to be ‘rich’ to sort your affairs out.

Boatman Financial has also continued to grow…and its all JB’s hard work!

Blogging Life

My little blog has also had a first birthday this year.  I want 2017 to be the year that I continue to grow this little corner of the internet and to create better, more engaging content.  I’d love to increase my following on all social media platforms.  I want to go self-hosted so that I can get real control of my blog and get some better analytics.  What I’d REALLY like is to be nominated for a blogging award but I know this is a far off distant goal yet.

I’ve also ticked a box in my worst blogger post by opening an Instagram account – OK, so I don’t have a theme or post regularly but at least I have one now!!  I also took part in the Blog Every Day in May challenge which I really enjoyed.  I don’t know that I’d have the ability to make blogging every day a real thing but I’d certainly do it again!  I’ve also introduced a monthly favourites series – I know every blogger out there includes this in their armour but I’ve enjoyed doing these so will continue for the foreseeable future.

Living Life

It’s fair to say we lead a busy old life as you can see from the above – it’s very rare that we have a weekend where we’ve got nothing planned.  We’ve seen Beyonce this year, we’ve been to a food festival and a gin festival, had friends bring new little people into the world including my oldest and dearest friend Gemma.  I’ve written about being inspired, why I blog, thinking of others and defining happiness.

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve had a pretty great 2016…here’s to 2017!

What a fab post and blog. So glad I’ve discovered it. I’ve been stuck in a bit of a blogging hiatus over the last few months which has been rather frustrating, as I’ve just wasted time by watching too much mindless TV and being addicted to Instagram. But after some much needed encouragement and a bit of a kick up the bum by a blogger turned author I’m back on track. I now need to think of something worth blogging about! I look forward to reading your posts in 2017 and wish you a very happy new year. x

I fell off the blogging wagon a little in December – life just took over! I try not to let it stress me out otherwise it takes the fun out of it!
Thank you for your kind words – I look forward to reading your 2017 posts!! X
