There’s a new Gin…made in my town! Silver Fox Gin!

We all know by now that the HappyWiseOwl household is a gin loving one. Not only do we have a great vineyard selling amazing wine around the corner from where we live, there is also a high quality gin producer!!  I met up with Tony Holdsworth to talk a little more about Silver Fox Gin.

Tell us about Silver Fox Gin
Silver Fox Gin is a London Dry Gin, intensely aromatic with delicate savoury notes of cedar, lifted with mellow citrus tones. It’s a deliciously pure tasting dry gin with a balanced palette, a slightly creamy texture, and an incredibly smooth fine finish. It is surprisingly complex and wonderfully smooth.

How did you get into Gin Making?
I have enjoyed drinking Gin for many years and gradually became aware of the process involved in the creation of Gin as well as the ingredients used. As I became more aware of the spirits and
botanicals used in the process I felt that this was something which I would like to develop so I purchased a small still and began my own experiments. This was the beginning of Silver Fox Gin.

What is the biggest challenge of business so far that you have had to overcome?
Without doubt, the licencing and registrations required by the industry! There are many requirements in place before it is legal to produce and sell your own Gin, the process is quite a challenge when you have no previous knowledge of the subject. However there are many people within the industry who have been helpful with both their knowledge and their time.

What has been the biggest achievement so far?
Last September, when we were barely started we provided a Gin Bar at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hyde Park, London for Jilly Coopers latest book launch. That was exciting.  Silver Fox Gin being included on Gin Festival lists and Cotswold Inns gin menu has been great. The first pub to stock our Gin, and come back for more was The Vine Tree at Norton. It is almost better when the following order is made!

We have also been fortunate to have some articles in magazines,” Tatler”, “The Field” and ”Horse and Hound” which is really helpful.  Silver Fox Gin can be purchased online and is being sent from Aberdeen to Jersey, as well as travelling worldwide. I have had a lot of help from old friends and I am very grateful for their input.

What does the future hold?
In the immediate future I am looking at increasing our distribution channels. I am very happy with the quality of my Gin but I do have some future plans to create further tipples which will develop and enhance the brand identity.
