What is Love?

I’ve asked a couple of questions on the blog that have been super popular including What is Luxury? and What is Old?.  This time I’m asking What is Love?

Love is possibly the strongest emotion we can feel.  You cannot control it and you cannot just switch it on and off like a lamp.  In my  mind, there are several ‘types’ of love.  You can love chocolate for example but that’s not the same love you feel for your partner.

The question is asked: “Is there anything more beautiful in life than a young couple clasping hands and pure hearts in the path of marriage? Can there be anything more beautiful than young love?” And the answer is given: “Yes, there is a more beautiful thing.

“It is the spectacle of an old man and an old woman finishing their journey together on that path. Their hands are gnarled but still clasped; their faces are seamed but still radiant; their hearts are physically bowed and tired but still strong with love and devotion. Yes, there is a more beautiful thing than young love. Old love.”

The Beauty of Love

Love makes your heart smile.

Love is loyalty but not blind loyalty.

Love is also guidance.

Love is respect.

Love is the commitment to another person to get through any challenge that life throws into your path.

Love is the rush of emotion you feel when your partner comes home after a long day.

Love is finding someone who lets you follow your travel addiction without too much questioning!!

Love is having a cup of tea and toast bought up to you at the weekend.

Love is laughing during the good times and crying together during the bad.

Love is Connie and Roxy being SO excited to see us after we’ve been out for a few hours.

Love is putting up with your husband when Arsenal haven’t done so well in a game!

Love is a steaming mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows on a cold, winters day.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
