Life races by so quickly, we jump from one thing to the next and it’s rare we stop and take stock of what’s been going on. After a conversation with a friend where we were talking about achievements and goals it got us thinking about iconic moments. Initially I thought it was ‘just’ getting married but actually there’s a few stand out times.
I didn’t have the best time dating when I was younger and very often found myself being the single one in my friendship group. I’d never really thought about getting married and ‘the future’ until I met JB and I just knew!
We got engaged on 1 January 2012 in the Atmosphere bar located at the top of the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa. I honestly had no idea that a proposal was on its way that night and was complex taken by surprise. We only have one photo of us together on that night and it was taken by a waiter.
Yes, I’ve put this separately because our wedding was probably one of the best days EVER! I loved the planning and organisation, getting together with my bridesmaids for dress shopping and my hen do. I felt like a true princess on our day and so many wonderful memories were made.
JB and I are equal, we encourage each other in everything we do, we support each other and we have the best laugh every day.
(I’m not going to write loads and make it super bleugh!!)
I never really knew what I wanted to do when I was a ‘grown up’ – a lot of my friends already knew they wanted to do A Levels and then hopefully university. I did my GCSE’s, went to the local college to do a Business NVQ and then found a job.
It wasn’t until 2012 that I started a post graduate diploma in Clinical Research. I’d found a job that I really enjoyed and wanted to get a qualification behind me that reflected what I was doing. It was by far THE hardest thing I’ve ever done. I worked full time and studied every night for around 3 hours trying to absorb as much as I could and get assignments written. A couple of the assignments really got my work peers thinking and they’d been in the industry for 20+ years!! I was SO pleased when I found out that I’d passed all my exams and all my assignments.
Being my own boss…and winning an award!
Three years ago we set up Boatman Admin Services – a virtual assistant company that supports small to medium sized businesses with all the admin that goes with running a business. There’s never really been a business plan and the company has grown organically over time. Weentered the #smallbiz100 awards which is a national award that recognises small businesses. I told nobody (apart from John) that I’d entered and then pushed it to the back of my mind. We found out in August that we’d been included in the 2018 winners. We went to the fancy awards party in London and had afternoon tea at the House of Lords.
What have been your most iconic moments?
