I’ve wanted to stay at The Manor, Castle Coombe for as long as I can remember. We’ve been to a wedding and had multiple afternoon teas but never taken the plunge and booked a room. Imagine my excitement when JB declared we were staying there after Christmas!
We checked in just after 3pm as I wanted to get the most out of our stay. Check in was swift and smooth and we were escorted to our room which was situated in the picturesque row of Mews Cottages next to the hotel. Each room is decorated traditionally and are designed individually. Every room however does have a four poster bed, roll top baths and seating areas so you know you’re going to be in for a treat!
I was shocked at the size of our room – it was HUGE! There was so much space, we could’ve had a party in there! One thing I noticed was that there was a lot of storage space. A large wardrobe which housed cosy dressing gowns, slippers, a safe and an umbrella plus a chest of drawers AND an ottoman. There was both a coffee machine and a kettle so both JB and I could have our beverage of preference. Each room also comes with a tablet which is connected to the concierge service. We were able to order fresh milk for me and some almond milk for JB.
Onto the bathroom of dreams! A beautiful roll top bath plus the biggest walk in shower I think I’ve ever seen in a hotel room with both a rainfall shower head and a side jet system. Needless to say I took a bath almost immediately and then began to wonder if I could fit another one in before we checked out the next day.
We didn’t eat at the hotel that evening and sadly their pub, The Castle Inn was shut for refurbishment – typically starting the day we checked in! We did have a few drinks in the bar area which was super cosy with the fire going. I can’t remember how many gins were on offer but I do know there was a LOT! The bar staff were great making recommendations. A couple next to us wanted to try something completely different and were offered several spirits that nobody had ever heard of.
Breakfast was delicious – I love a good breakfast! There was a table in the middle of the Bybrook restaurant that had tons of fresh pastries, fruit, yoghurt with homemade compote, a cereal selection and some delicious juices and smoothies. We helped ourselves to a few treats whilst our cooked dishes were bought out. I had eggs florentine which came out on homemade muffins (incredible!) and JB went all out with the full English. Initially, it did look quite small on the plate but once he’d eaten it, he said it was probably the right amount. Toast seemed to be endless – they even had some vegan butter which was great for JB. (I didn’t take any photos as it was super busy when we went down and I didn’t like to disturb everyone).
What completely slipped my mind is that they now have a small spa area. The newly refurbished Potting Shed allows you to have a treatment whilst hidden away in their Italian Garden area. Perhaps we’ll just have to go back!
We booked this stay on a deal – £125 for an overnight stay with breakfast which is about 50% off. Fingers crossed another deal will come through again soon!
