10 ideas for self-isolation entertainment

Gosh, these are some strange times we’re in at the moment isn’t it. Feels so surreal and uncertain. As I work from home anyway, the thought of being at home doesn’t bother me too much. We’re all going to have more time on our hands so I thought I’d do a round up of ideas we can do whilst we’re all in self isolation.

Write a list

Making a list will help clear your mind

You know me, I LOVE a list! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the things you could be doing at the moment. I started the weekend by getting a new notebook from my ever expanding stash (the only thing I’m stockpiling!) and noting down all the things I’d like to do whilst we’ve got this down time.

Declutter

Last year I took part in #project3000 whereby I took the challenge to declutter 3000 items from our home in 365 days. My top tip is to tackle one room at a time and then one area at a time otherwise it becomes really daunting.

Reach Out to People

Now is the best time to pick up your phone and contact your family and friends that you might not have spoken to in a while. You never know who is lonely or struggling. There are so many ways to reach out to people, there really is no excuse! Perhaps you could arrange a coffee and cake or pizza and wine date over Zoom with your friends!

Take time out to read more

One thing I want to focus on is less screen time – be that my phone or the TV. I’ve got quite a few books that I’ve never got round to reading so this is quite high up on my list.

Photos

If you’re like me, you’ve probably got an insane amount of photos on your phone. Every year I create a photo book through PhotoBox to capture all of our memories. Over the last week I’ve already managed to do our 2019 book and need to do our Australia / New Zealand / Dubai book from February 2020.

Exercise

With gyms now closed, a lot of people are going to struggle without their exercise routine. With SO many YouTube videos available now, the possibilities are endless. It’s time to try something a little different – I found Hip Hop tabata the other day when I was browsing! My gym have also given us unlimited access to Les Mills Online classes.

Get Outside

Getting outside for some fresh air everyday – whilst keeping your distance

Fresh air is going to be really important for everyone over the coming weeks. If you need to pop out for milk, consider walking down to the shop to stretch your legs and get some fresh air. Being outside, away from all distractions works wonders for your mental health as well. Breath in some fresh air into your lungs and you’ll feel much better. (Please be mindful of social distancing and local government advice regarding being outside)

Cooking

Whilst we’re struggling to get things in the supermarket, it’s a good time to really dig into the back of the cupboards and see what food you’ve already got. I know we’ve got a couple of packets of ‘ready’ risotto that you just add a couple of ingredients too. They might not have the best nutritional value BUT they are a meal that you won’t need to get to the supermarket for.

Unsubscribe to emails

Sadly, many of us will see a drop in our income over the coming weeks. Since we’ve been away, I’ve spent the last month or so starting to unsubscribe to lots of emails that I don’t need to see anymore. Hopefully this will lead to less online spending as I won’t be tempted by any sales or offers that are going round!

Try something new

Learning to make candles

There are SO many new things that you can start. You can download apps to help you learn a new language, you can buy all sorts of starter kits from independent online stores – be that candle making or chocolate lolly making. It’s important to try and support these small businesses if we can whilst looking for something to keep us all entertained!

What are you doing in to keep yourself entertained during self isolation?!

Thanks so much for the tips, although I still work – so I don’t really get around to too much. I did manage to declutter and change up or wardrobe for Winter.

I’m definitely doing a lot of cooking at the moment! I went for a walk for about 6 miles yesterday which also made me feel a lot better

I’m definitely reading more and decluttering. Some days I just feel weird and lost. It’s such an odd feeling.
