Travelling by Plate

Travel is a huge part of our lives (as you’ll no doubt already know). With all travel plans put on hold for 2020, I’ve been looking at our memories. I thought I’d take part in the #travellinkup and travel the world by plates of food that we’ve had over the time.

Pre Dinner drinks

When we went to New Zealand for the first time, we spent a few days in Queenstown. We found a wonderful little bar that overlooked Lake Wakitpu and the Remarkable mountains. The wine was incredibly expensive but it was the whole atmosphere and surroundings that made it worth it! Queenstown was one of my favourite places we visited in New Zealand. It’s a shame we couldn’t spend any time there on our more recent visit.

Starter

When we lived in Spain for 6 weeks back in 2016, we found an amazing little restaurant called Cala Bandida tucked away Javea. The staff barely spoke English and we barely spoke Spanish but the atmosphere, the view and the food were just incredible.

I’d have to choose a small selection of tapas as a starter – being careful not to over order which is what we normally do with tapas! From memory they did an amazing little burrata salad with red onion, sweet potato, pesto and rocket.

Main Course

It’s got to be a pizza from Italy for the main course! I’ve been fortunate to travel to Italy 5 times now including Rome and Venice. There is nothing better than proper Italian pizza…washed down with a cold glass of Italian white wine or Prosecco!

Pudding

The Wynn Buffet
The Wynn Buffet

There were a few contenders for pudding but going over old photos I remembered the incredible buffet at the Wynn in Las Vegas when we went in 2018. With so many different desserts you’d have plenty of choice! There was even desserts served at breakfast – what’s not to love!

Where would you go on your round the world holiday by food?!

I love your selection Emma! Those little restaurants tucked away are the best literally! I think for my food by plate around the world, I’d start in Argentina for wine, then Peru for starters and Tuscany for Mains and Amalfi coast for dessert! B xx

Ohhh I was right there beside you with chilled glass of wine in Queenstown. One of our favourite places too. Can you believe, I have never got to Italy?!?! I was booked to go to Venice or my birthday last year, and Nik got ill again. Then we were supposed to go in June this year, Covid! I will get there one day…
