Working Lunch at Claytons Kitchen

Whilst in Bath a couple of weeks ago in between business related meetings John and I popped into Claytons Kitchen  for some lunch.

We’d been in there a few months previously but just to grab a coffee so thought we’d head back and try their lunch menu.  They do an Express Lunch on Monday – Friday between 12 – 3pm which includes 2 courses for £15 or 3 courses for £20.

The chef, Rob Clayton has earned himself not one but TWO Michelin Stars at Hunstrete House (when he was just 25!!) and another at Bath Priory.  The menu is simple, seasonal and uses the best quality produce.

John went for the two courses option and chose Mr Parsons Sausages with chunky chips, veg and onion gravy – it is actually served with mashed potato but as it contains milk and cream he thought best to avoid his allergies.

I can never face anything massive at lunchtime so I opted for the roast chicken and smoked bacon sandwich.

The bread used for my sandwich was super fresh, the bacon was crispy (just  how I like it) and the chicken was moist and tender.  John’s dinner looked really good and proper home cooked fodder – the sausages were lamb with rosemary and garlic.

John’s came with a dessert and not wanting to be left out I had to have one as well.  John chose Claytons Strawberry Shortbread (it was nice to see a dessert on the menu that was dairy free for John to have as it’s always a struggle…unless it’s sorbet).  I decided to really treat myself and had the salted caramel mousse with peanut butter ice cream.

This was probably my favourite part of lunch to be really honest!  The mousse was rich, smooth and just the right amount to not be too sickly – the peanut butter ice cream was delicious and the 2 flavours went hand in hand.

The shortbread was light, crumbly and a good chunk of a portion.  It was served with scoop of tasty, sharp raspberry sorbet.

It’s easy to see why this is the number 3 restaurant in Bath on Tripadviser (as at July 2016).  Super friendly service from Kevin our waiter, a relaxed atmosphere and top quality food.

All together our bill came to £40 for 2 courses each and a cheeky glass of wine each which we thought was super reasonable for Bath and such yummy food.

So next time you’re in Bath and you’re looking for something quick but tasty for lunch – pop into Claytons Kitchen!
