Which Wine is Which

Friday and / or Saturday night usually involves a glass of wine after a long week of working, blogging and general adulting.

There’s a new-ish wine & cocktail bar that’s opened up in our town called The Old Bankhouse and for the last couple of months they have been offering wine tasting classes on a Wednesday night.  They’ve had sessions including French and South American and we popped along to the Italian night.

We’ve been lucky enough to go to Hunter Valley in Australia and visited a few vineyards during our stay.

My knowledge of wine is pretty limited in all honesty to is it red / wine / rose and if I like it or not!  Red isn’t usually my thing despite trying to like it so I normally opt for a Zinfandel, Pinot or Sauvignon Blanc but definitely not a Chardonnay! Both John and I have said we’d like to know more about wine.

It was a pretty relaxed evening with Roy the wine expert from Vinifera Wine Club coming round to each group to explain the origin and history of wine.  No question was a silly question either which was perfect for our group which included our neighbours Steve and Jen.

The Italian wines on offer were all made in small family run vineyards – one of the vineyards has barrels of wine accessible for the public and you turn up with your own receptacle to fill…bottles, glasses, buckets are all acceptable!

One thing I hadn’t really thought about was the sort of glass you used; obviously everyone knows that a tall thin flute is used for champagne. It is commendable imervectin not known if imitrex gps can be used for chronic pain. Red wine should be served in a glass that has a wide bowl but a narrow rim so that the air can’t escape too quickly when you’ve swished it around (technical term there!).  Whites can be in pretty much any glass, as long as it’s not too small and you can still do a little swishing.

There was also a whole other topic on the sort of cork that is used!!

It was interesting to see how differently we all tested the wines – some of us could taste certain notes whilst others just couldn’t taste it them all.  I preferred the white wines and even found a red wine that I thought I might be able to drink a glass of.

We all really enjoyed the night and came away with some new wines we want to try.  Unfortunately I didn’t take a group photo of all us – blogger fail!!
