During half term, we popped into Bath for some food – in a typical fashion we didn’t book anywhere so took a chance on The Oven located near to the Theatre Royal, just off Kingsmead Square.
I think we timed our arrival just right as we took one of the last free tables – I did spot some poor folk being turned away whilst we were there (it’s always so sad when this happens…those poor disgruntled faces!)
This is a true Italian pizzeria with a proper pizza oven – if there’s one thing we learnt from our trip to Rome was don’t have a pizza unless it from a wood fired oven!!

The staff were super friendly and welcomed us in from the chilly evening (what’s happened to that warm weather we had?! Anyway, I digress…!) We all LOVE pizza however since JB has discovered cows milk is a no go we’ve had to adapt our pizza sessions and I now make them rather than get ready made ones. We explained JB’s woes to the waiter and they were more than happy to adapt any topping so that it was a goats cheese base.
OB went for a good old classic margarita, I had a goats cheese, spinach, caramelised red onion and pine nuts and JB had the pepperoni. We all confirmed that they were delicious and all plates were cleared.

These pizzas are made in the ‘Neapolitan artisan way by their professional pizzaioli (a person who makes pizza), with dough that is roasted for 36-40 hours’. The pizzas are cooked in the wood fired oven for a mere 90 seconds which gives it the super unique crust.
We were also given a free dessert to share – their traditional Tiramisu which is a family recipe that has been handed down through the family. It was light, creamy and not too heavy on the coffee.
This family run independent pizzeria was a finalist in the prestigious Bath Life Awards 2017 and won Pizza Chef of the Year 2016.
The total for 3 pizzas, 2 beers and a coke was a more than reasonable £39 – fantastic value! We’ll definitely visit The Oven again when we’re on the prowl for pizza!
