Divine on the Green

It’s been a few months since Mark and Jane Slingo, together with their daughter Becki moved the Divine cafe from the outskirts of Calne into the centre.  Divine had been in Cherhill for 10 years but have been in their new home since October 2017.  With the help of Sandy Gill, the cafe was always extremely popular and with it’s recent move, the popularity has continued to grow.  I’ve been several times during the day for tea and cake dates with friends but I’m yet to try their breakfast or lunch menu.

Just before Christmas they announced that on a Friday and Saturday they would be opening their doors in the evening for wine and tapas.

Now…as some you regular readers may know, a leisurely glass of wine paired with some delicious delicacies of various tapas is my favourite sort of food. When I was invited to have a little taster session I couldn’t get my feet down to Divine On The Green fast enough!

Tables covered in white table cloths with small flickering tea lights welcome you. We were shown to our table by Becks, who is managing the evening covers.

Although the menu is not vast, there are 2 different anti pasti platters (one of which being vegetarian), a bread basket, a cheese platter plus marinated olives.

We had barely eaten all day so ordered both platters and the bread basket – whoops!! (During a chat with Becks later in the evening, she confirmed that they could have adapted the cheese platter a little to include a cheese or two that JB could eat such as manchego or buffalo mozzarella).

Each platter was loaded with tempting treats.  The veggie option included hummus, stuffed vine leaves, and grilled vegetables whilst the other platter included charcuterie, bruschetta and buffalo mozzarella.

Our poison of choice was the Italian Sauvignon Blanc which is supplied by Stewart Wines in Bristol.  Craft beers are also available which are supplied by Lost & Grounded Brewers, also in Bristol.

Rumour has it that there will be events running on Wednesday evenings in the near future which will be tickets only.

Divine on the Green also offer a breakfast club on the the first Sunday of every month…needless to say we’ve booked in for March!  Can’t wait!!
