Holidays – many of us dream of far away shores, of crystal clear waters and soft sandy beaches. What about those little hidden gems that are closer to home? Sometimes a staycation can be just what’s needed – after all, a rest is as good as a break they say!
Bath
We’re super lucky to have Bath right on our doorstep, just a mere 30 minutes drive or 10 minutes on the train. People gather from across the globe in the summer and admittedly I’ll try to avoid the city centre in both summer and Christmas market time. A great place to eat as well – there are SO many different options from more well known chains to plenty of wonderful independent cafes and restaurants.

Castle Combe
The pretty little village of Castle Combe is also close to home for us. Home of the race circuit and most famous for featuring in Dr Doolittle many moons ago plus Stardust more recently. Castle Coombe is very much a quintessential English village.

Lacock
Lacock is another gem that’s around 20 minutes from us. People will recognise the Abbey from Harry Potter, Poldark and Downton Abbey. Lacock is also home to my favourite chocolate shop, Coco Chemistry. YUMMY

Bradford on Avon
A much smaller version of Bath, Bradford on Avon will often pull at the tourists. The view from the main bridge looks to the hill which is dotted with the old weavers’ cottages and the river bank flanked with the 19th-century former cloth mills. There are so many independent shops and cafe’s in Bradford on Avon its great to see a local community thriving.

Where have you got that’s on your doorstep that you tend to take for granted?!
Oh wow where do you live?! You must be nearish my neck of the woods-ish as I’ve just moved to Dorset but lived in Bath for nearly 10 years so go a lot x
