A relaxing break at The Bell at Alderminster

After a busy few months of work we were looking for a getaway that wasn’t to far from home. Stratford upon Avon has always been a favourite of ours so when I stumbled across The Bell at Alderminster I booked it straight away.

Nestled in the 4,000-acre Alscot Estate, The Bell is less than 10 minutes’ drive from Stratford. A typical country pub with flagstone flooring, traditional beers, a good array of gin and 9 boutique bedrooms upstairs, it’s a winner all round.

We were fortunate to book the Ascot Suite which was stunning. It’s clear that Emma Holman-West (owner of the estate) has had input into the decor being an interior designer herself. Our room was decorated in delicate creams and duck egg blues with silver hardware dotted around.

Upon entering the room we were greeted with a cosy lounge area with a TV, two armchairs and a desk area. This lead through to the bedroom with a four poster bed and a big bath. Considering the weather was poor this bath was a treat!! One unexpected treat was the homemade shortbread and a pack of Monsoon Estates coffee (roasted on the Alscot estate) AND fresh milk!!

Downstairs you’ve got the traditional pub where the locals gather which leads into a bright airy restaurant.

We ate the hotel on both nights. The service was great and the staff were amenable to JB’s dairy intolerance. Friday night was steak night so there were some good deals and options available. Breakfast options were amazing – Eggs Benedict (of course) plus the usual full English, avocado toast together with toast, cereal and pastries.

Sadly, the weather was not on our side so we couldn’t take advantage of the beautiful pub garden that was home to Baby Bell, their mini outdoor bar. This photo was taken in a rare 10 minute glimpse of blue skies…it rained solidly for 2 days)

We’d definitely return to The Bell – everything about it was faultless from the food, the service and the bedrooms.

Sounds really great, the last time I went away was for our honeymoon almost a year ago.
