When in Dubai…What to Do

Dubai…the city where anything is possible.  You want to shop til you drop – yes!  You want to relax on the beach – yes!  You want to go skiing – yes!  You want to skydive – yes! You want to eat in fabulous restaurants every night – yes!  You want to feel safe at night when you’re wandering around – yes! You want to go horse racing – yes!  You want to go into the desert – yes!  OK…I think you get the picture!

We wanted to have a little down time whilst we were there so we had a couple of days just being by the pool at our hotel.

I thought I’d share some of things we made it to this time round.

Burj Khalifa

The worlds tallest building can be found in Dubai – the Burj Khalifa.  This place is very special to us as it’s where John proposed back in 2012 at the Atmosphere Bar.  We didn’t make it back to the bar this time round as we couldn’t take Olivia in there as she’s under age.

Instead we went to level 124.  The high speed lift takes you to the observation deck in a matter of moments – it’s 10 metres per second!  The floor-to-ceiling glass walls provide unobstructed 360-degree view of the city, desert and ocean. On a clear day (which it wasn’t when we were up there) you can see the curvature of the earth!

The Armarni Hotel can also be found at the Burj Khalifa…I’d LOVE to spend a night there!! (Rooms start at £400…better put that on my bucket list!)

Dubai Fountain

At the bottom of the Burj Khalifa you will find the Dubai Fountain – the world’s tallest performing fountain (of course!)

The evening shows are daily from 6pm to 11pm, every 30 minutes.  There are afternoon shows also at 1pm and 1.30pm.  Due to the time that we were at the top of the Burj Khalifa, we were able to watch the first show from the 124th  floor!

You can also take a boat ride on the lake whilst the fountain show is taking place.  We all know that John doesn’t do boats so we didn’t partake!

Dubai Mall

Continuing along the lines of BIG…this is the biggest shopping mall in the world giving you everything from H&M and good old Marks & Spencers to high end Chanel, Tiffany and Louboutin.  Naturally, I had to pop into Sephora to find out what was on offer (watch out for a blog post!)

Of course, inside the Mall you’re going to need an aquarium and a waterfall!

Aquaventure Waterpark

You can’t go to Dubai without visiting one of the waterparks!  We went to the Aquaventure which is located at the Atlantis Palm hotel.  Waterparks are not really my cup of tea but there’s plenty to do there if you’re the same as me.  There is a HUGE beach area that you can enjoy, plenty of pools and a lazy river.  For the more adventurous there are LOADS of water rides including a virtual drop affair (no thanks!)

There’s so much more to do – we’ve been twice and I feel like we’ve still so much to explore…I’d love to go into the desert and visit the traditional souks.
