Book Review #3

Summer is finally upon us so what’s been my reading matter of choice recently?!

After You – JoJo Moyes

I’m pretty sure  most of us read JoJo’s first book – Me Before You which was brilliant.  In fact it was the only book that has ever made me cry!  I haven’t been to see the film as yet but I’ve heard nothing but great reviews on it.

This is the sequel to that hit book where we see what Lou Clark has been up to in the last 18 months.  It shows how she has dealt with grief and what she is doing to get her life back on track.

I have to say I didn’t love this book as much as Me Before You but I think writing a sequel would be extremely difficult – I didn’t hate it at all but it didn’t keep me gripped like the last one.  There’s definitely some twists and turns for Lou however I don’t want to give too much away…but lets say I wouldn’t have turned down the opportunity that presents itself to her!!

According to Yes – Dawn French

I LOVED this book!  I think I read it over a weekend to be honest, I was that hooked!  Although I’ve heard others say they weren’t that impressed with this novel from Dawn – I’ve never read any of the others so can’t compare it.

This sees Rosie leave Cornwall and head to New York to start a fresh after a troublesome period in her life.  She goes to work with a very upperclass family in Manhattan looking after the grandchildren and when she arrives for the interview she is asked to stand on a piece of newspaper to protect the carpet as she’s dripping wet!  As the story unfolds, Rosie says yes to lots of things that she wouldn’t normally do and finds herself in a pickle more than once.

One thing I did notice is that every sentence is reallllllly LONG!!  Not sure what that’s all about to be honest!  A light hearted, enjoyable holiday read!
