Great British Food Festival

With the weather a little brighter on Sunday, John and I headed off to Bowood for the Great British Food Festival.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised!  There was SO much to see, do…and taste!

There were 2 huge marquees that held approx 60 Artisan Food stalls from jams & chutneys, cakes & bread to gins, whiskeys, sausages, cheeses and ice-cream!  All of the stalls were handing out samples of their products, enticing you to make a purchase.

A tent was set up for demos – including a demo from Bake Off Winner Nadiya Hussain and Masterchef Finalist Juanita Hennessey.  Unfortunately we were a little late to see Nadiya’s demonstration and were right at the back.  being the little person that I am, I couldn’t really see anything – whatever she was cooking smelled delicious!

Not only for foodie lovers, there was a craft marquee, children’s craft area and some live music to keep us entertained.

After wandering around and sampling a LOT of goodies, we then started to think about what food we’d like to eat.  Again, there was so much choice!  Pizzas, steak, hog roast, piri piri chicken, chips, melted cheese sandwiches, pies – the list goes on!  We eventually opted for something from Taste of Vietnam.  I had pork with lemongrass served with Vermicelli noodles and John opted for his noodles to be topped with chicken and basil.  Our friends ordered the steamed buns with chicken and pork.

Of course, we had to find something sweet to follow these spicy dishes so we headed straight over to The Crepes Escape and were completely blown away by the amount of choice being served from their funky little caravan!

I went for The Ultimate – strawberries, cream and Nutella.  John chose Bananarama, bananas, Nutella but held off the cream.  Both were super yummy!

We purchased apple & cider sausages (which we had on the BBQ tonight – delicious), some strawberry gin from A Little Luxury Preserves and carrot cake from Jake Bakes which was egg, dairy and gluten free…which was pretty good!

There are a few more Food Festivals booked for the rest of year – you can see where here.  I highly recommend getting yourself to one if you can!
