An Afternoon for Sisters

Every year when my sister Sammy’s birthday rolls around, I already know what she’s going to ask for before I even utter the words “what would you like for your birthday this year?”  We live 2 hours apart and therefore don’t see lots of each other so she always asks for something whereby we spend some time together, just the two of us, no parents or brothers (sorry Alex) or partners (sorry John and Ben).

Last year we did a chocolate workshop which was GREAT fun which you can read about here.

This year, we opted to be sophisticated “ladies” and went for Afternoon Tea at the MacDonalds Bath Spa Hotel.  This beautiful 5 star hotel is tucked just a mile out of the city centre so is super easy to reach if you are visiting Bath for the weekend.

I’d pre-booked as it was a Saturday but apparently there is no need to book (unless it’s a special occasion such as Mothers Day).

On our arrival our coats were swiftly taken away and we were shown into the grand drawing room to our cosy table for two.  The manager came over to say hello and offered us a both a glass of champagne…strangely enough we didn’t say no!

He spent some time talking to us and we learnt that he had only been the manager for about a month and was currently living near my sister so was doing a big commute most days.

We opted for the Full Afternoon Tea which included sandwiches with egg, ham, salmon and cream cheese and cucumber.  There were then 4 HUGE scones with lashings of clotted cream and both strawberry and raspberry jam.  This followed by pieces of lemon cake and fruit cake and then rounded off with 5 smaller cakes included macaroons, chocolate torte, raspberry torte, panna cotta and Madeleines.

Needless to say, we were STUFFED by the time we’d drank 2 pots of tea and made a good dent in the food.  The service was excellent, the staff were very attentive but not too overwhelming.  There were some cakes that we just couldn’t manage so these were packaged up for us to take home.

The weather was dull, grey and rainy so the photos are not the greatest!!

If you’re looking for a Christmas gift this year or just fancy treating yourself, I really recommend this hotel.  I paid £25 per person for the full afternoon tea experience.

Earlier this year, I spent a day with my brother in London where you can read what we got up to here and where we ate here.
