Fowey Hotel – Cornwall

This has become one of our traditions.  Taking advantage of JB having clients in Cornwall allowing us to spend a night or two away.  Last year we stayed at Llawnroc Hotel in Gorran Haven which you can read about here.

This year we decided to stay in Fowey at the aptly named Fowey Hotel, advertised as a 4* boutique hotel, complete with the Lookout Gin Bar (which was partly the reason I’d booked the hotel if I’m completely honest!)

Fowey Hotel

We took the dinner, bed and breakfast option as it was £15pp to include dinner which gave you £37.50pp to spend in the restaurant.  We booked a executive sea view double room however on arrival we’d been upgraded to a superior sea view double.

The views from our room were absolutely stunning.  We were looking right out over the stunning sea views over the Fowey Estuary.  It was picture perfect.

We had spacious room with a huge four poster bed and seats right by the window so you could watch the world go by.  The bathroom was equally good sized but the shower seemed small for the size of the bathroom.

Our stay was during the hottest days the UK had seen so far in 2017, we decided that walking about anywhere was far too strenuous.  We took the easy option of going to the bar and enjoying a bottle of chilled rose.  We probably sat chatting and watching the boats for a good few hours.

Dinner was booked for 8pm that evening so after a quick spruce up we headed down to the Spinnakers Restaurant.  The room had a huge high ceiling with big chandeliers.  There was some piano music playing quietly in the background which gave it an ‘older’ feel.  Dinner was good and we sampled some of the local Cornish wine.  I was a little disappointed with the ‘gin bar’ – it wasn’t quite what I expected (especially when we have the most amazing gin bar in Bath) – just a normal bar with a few select gins.

What I hadn’t realised (and wasn’t made clear to us) was that our booking also included free tea and cake.   Hardly the end of the world to be honest.

One minor detail that really transfixed us was the really old lift in the hotel – you know, the ones you see in the old films where it has 2 sliding doors across!

This hotel is definitely aimed at the older clientele – I think we were probably the youngest ones staying by about 10-15 years! Overall, the hotel was really clean and tidy with friendly, helpful staff.

Where have you stayed in Cornwall that you can recommend for next year’s stay?!

Despite a couple of niggles, this looks like a wonderful place to stay 🙂

It had so much history to it – you could just picture the old bell boy working in there with the ladies in their grand dresses!!! x

It’s such a beautiful part of the country – it’s so tranquil down there and a much slower pace of life!!! x
