Project 3000

As I’ve said many times on here, I’m not someone that sets New Years resolutions. You can make improvements to your routine any day of the year…you don’t need to wait until 1 January to put these plans into action! One thing that has caught my eye has been #project3000.

Originally set up by Claire Birnie of The Tidy Life Project, the idea is that you declutter your home of 3000 items. This sounds a little scary but accordingly to research by decluttering experts, the average home has some 300,000 individual items. How insane is that!!!

I started 2018 by reading ” target=”_blank”>The Year of Less by Cait Flanders which looks at having less of everything. Less spending, less eating and drinking in excess, less consumption of ‘stuff’. This lead to a different mindset and really thinking about my spending habits. I’ve never been a huge shopaholic but I don’t tend to make such impulsive decisions on clothes now.

Our home is not massively over cluttered and I’m wondering if the target of 3000 is a little excessive for a family of 2. That means that on average I should be getting rid of 250 items a month!! Typically in November 2018 we spent a couple of weekends clearing out our office. I think we easily ditched over 150+ items. If only I’d found out about this challenge before then – I would have delayed the clear out!

I’ll be doing a monthly blog post update on how we’re progressing and to make myself a bit more accountable.

Are you a hoarder or a minimalist?!?!

This sounds interesting and terrifying all at once! I love a good cull but I couldn’t do 250 monthly xx
